The NSW and Australian Government will only do business with those members of industry who demonstrate and can provide evidence of a commitment to the principles of work health and safety and sound environmental management in all aspects of their work.

1. Hazard & Risk Management
   Identification of workplace hazards specific to the job and changing work sites and the preparation of personalised hazard and risk assessment proformas as a daily checklist. Checklist researched and compiled in accordance with legislative requirements.
2. Safe Work Method Statements(SWMS)
   The WHS Act 2011 states that a safe work method statement (SWMS) must be prepared for all high risk construction work. However clients, specifically local and state governmnents, often state that low risk work in the environmental sector also requires a SWMS.
   The document must:
   • list the types of work being done
   • state the health and safety hazards and risks arising from each step of the work to be carried out
   • describe how the risks will be controlled
   • describe how the risk control measures will be implemented, monitored and reviewed
   • take into consideration factors that may affect the way in which the high risk work is carried out
   • be readily accessible and easy to read by all workers and visitors to a site.
3. WHS Emergency Plans
   An emergency plan must be prepared, maintained and implemented by the person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU – the new term that includes employers) for the workplace.
   The emergency plan must provide:
   • emergency procedures including:
     • an effective response to an emergency
     • evacuation procedures
     • notifying emergency service organisations promptly
     • medical treatment and assistance
     • effective communication between the authorised person who coordinates the emergency response and all persons at the workplace.
   • procedure for testing of the emergency procedures, including the frequency of testing.
   • information, training and instruction to relevant workers in relation to implementing the emergency procedures.
4. Environmental Management Systems(EMS)
   When procuring government contracts or as a sub contracting to government funded commercial projects, an organisation must demonstrate that they have researched and have a monitored system in place to minimise any threats to the environment. Environmental programs need a comprehensive, systematic, planned and documented approach to the work to be undertaken. This document EMS, includes the organizational structure, planning and resources for developing, implementing and maintaining policy for environmental protection.
